We will start by reviewing the different hand tools most commonly used in woodworking, how to use them, how they are set up, and how to maintain them. We will discuss the various ways to sharpen your hand tools.
JOINERY
We will learn about different wood joinery techniques like mortise and tenon, bridle joints, dove-tail joints and more!
MILLING AND SAFETY
We will talk about wood; how its cut, dried, how its milled, and all the funky ways it behaves.
With an emphasis on safety, we will demonstrate the basic woodworking machinery necessary for woodworking; the table saw, the jointer, the planer and more.
PROJECT - MAKE A BOX!
Each participant will create a project for the class, a box, that will utilize all the various techniques and information learned throughout the class. At the end of the class, you get to take the wood box home and amaze your friends and family with your new found talent!
What better way than to learn the fundamentals of woodworking than in a group environment, in a professional woodshop, with support from your fellow classmates and me! (Justin)
